Just Getting Organized

If you have emailed me for written instructions to the gameboard quilt don't think that I have forgotten you.  I am just having a little more trouble than I thought I would in organizing all of the emails so that I can send out one mass mailing.  I should have my act together in the next few days.

I will say that I have had more people email me than have become new followers to my blog.  So I would just love it if you are one of those people.........be sure to become a "follower" ASAP.

I was just in California for the weekend and visited one of my favorite shops.  If you are ever in the neighborhood be sure to check them out.  Sewing Party in Laguna Hills CA.  This is some of the fabric I bought there.

I am going to figure out a way to use this in my gameboard quilt.
The colors were just too perfect to pass up.

I can not wait to show you what I am working on but it will have to
wait because the quilt is a surprise for one of my favorite people.

Hi Ho Cherry-O Step Three- Making the Baskets

Iron on Pellon to wrong side of one of you pieces of fabric then, sew right sides together.

Trim.

Fold it in thirds so you can find the middle of the back.

Cut a slit in the back.
Be careful to only cut one layer and be sure yo are cutting the piece of fabric that dose NOT have the pellon ironed on it.

Using the slit you just made turn inside out.

Press then top stitch.

Add your snap and a button.  The sew these onto your gameboard.

Sew the baskets in each corner.  I used the blanket stitch and sewed them by hand for my first gameboard quilt but just sewed them on the machine for this one.  So you decide!

Hi Ho Cherry-O Step Two- Making the Wool Trees

Iron "Heat and Bond" on to the back of your wool.
Then trace the tree pattern and cut them out of the wool.
You can see that my wool was a little smaller than the pattern so I just cut my trees a little smaller.  I wanted the monkey to show on my background fabric so I made some adjustments to all of my tree shapes after making the first original cut.  Go ahead and get creative with your tree shapes.

Punch holes.  I punched two trees at a time.  I'm always looking for the shortcut!

This is what I used to punch my holes.

10 holes in each Tree.  It will put marks in the wood so don't do this on your kitchen table!
I found a scrap of wood in my garage leftover from a three year old remodel job.
Sometimes I am glad no one cleans out the garage.

Carefully tack a small piece of fabric to the back over each hole.
Try not to get "heat & bond" on your iron.

Now you will have a solid color behind each hole.

I did two of my tress with orange as the background and two with yellow.
This has nothing to do with the game but I just liked the way it looked with two different colors.

Get creative in the center if you want.

This is the first gameboard quilt I made.

Don't Throw Away the Valentine's Day Cards

We have a tradition in our home of putting a Valentine’s box in the middle of our kitchen table about a week before the 14th.  It started as a gentle reminder that the day was fast approaching.  On the evening of the 14th we have a dinner that is mostly red and the main dish is always heart shaped meatloaf.  After diner we open the box and pass out all of the valentines that the family members have made for each other.  I have saved those over the years.  A few years back I made this quilt using the valentines as a starting point.

My new favorite treat.  Poached pears with homemade carmel sauce.
